Over the last two decades the concept of “transmediality” has grown out to establish itself as a field in its own right. We can now speak, indeed, of transmedial studies as an area of enquiry that is particularly interested in exploring those communicative phenomena which, by not being media specific – such as narratives – “land” on different media and capitalise on the unique affordances of each medium. Concretely, the growth of transmedial studies – both in popularity and disciplinary – has been fuelled by the consolidation of media convergences. This consolidation has eventually promoted the emergence of a transmedia-specific galaxy of communicative phenomena and outputs in which we witness the creolization of genres, codes and languages, as well as that of contents, media products and audiences.
